Berberis thunbergii 'Green Carpet' is a low growing cultivar which is well known for its lush green foliage which turns vivid shades of amber or red before falling in autumn. It also has pale-lemon coloured delicate flowers in spring. These flowers are very charming and stand out well against the fresh young green leaves.  This is a small, spreading shrub suitable for most gardens. Any occasional upright branches should be pruned out to accentuate the carpet effect. Suitable for a position in full sun or partial shade and most well drained soils. It is fully hardy and grows slowly to be a small to medium sized shrub. Often used as a border or for group planting. Ideal for difficult sites! It will reach a height of 1 m and a spread of 1 - 2 m in 8 - 10 years. Flowers March to May. Fruits August to September. Prune after flowering, Remove dead flower heads and one third of old wood, Cut back flowered shoots to encourage new growth.
