It is a well-known quince variety, which produces large fruits with a very good flavour. The tree is vigorous with large ornamental pink flowers!
The fruits are very large, oblong-pear shaped, yellowish-orange, have soft texture and mild flavour, juicier and ripen earlier than most other quince varieties so the fruit is ready for picking from mid-September, however, the fruits should be stored indoors (at room temperature) for a few weeks to ripen properly.
It is interesting that Portugal quinces may turn into crimson pink when cooked depending on how ripe they were. The fruit is particularly suitable for making quince jam.
