In its original country it can grow even up to 20 meters` tall, an evergreen tree or shrub. Few people know that it is a dioecious plant, so the pistils and stamens grow on separate plants.
The bright-green, elliptical, wavy-edged leaves emit strongly aromatic perfume when rubbed. These leaves are important elements of the Mediterranean gastronomy, but they are used with predilection in the Hungarian cuisine too! It is excellent as a container plant. It is native to the Mediterranean area and is widely applied as a hedgerow there too!
