It is an Italian sort which yields high-quality olive berries, originating from Tuscany. It is excellent to produce both olives and olive oil! It early ripens, has regular and abundant amount of crop. Thanks to the very good capability of adaptation, it is planted with predilection not only all over in Italy, but also in other Mediterranean regions.
The cold tolerance of the sort Leccino is also among the better ones so it can be raised successfully in protected places and inner courtyards, but full sunshine is needed! Mostly grown as container plant because it is a very elegant, Mediterranean-style ornament on a balcony or a terrace too! This sort is not self-fertile, so another version must be nearby to the berry production, but it is usually advisable to keep at least two sorts coexist for satisfactory expected fruit production. For example, the sort Frantoio, which is also an Italian version, is a good pollinator to Leccino.
