The Japanese dogwood is a deciduous shrub, endemic in China, Korea and Japan. Particularly impressive in spring, when its bright yellow flowers bloom in bulk or in autumn, when its leaves turn into bronze-red colour. Its most outstanding feature is the fruit, which is not only consumed for its delicious flavour, but also for its curing effect: it is an essential prerequisite in Chinese medicine. Qian Long`s particularly long and healthy life – he was one of the emperors in Manchu Dynasty, who reigned in China between 1644 and 1911 - is attributed to the regular consumption of this fruit!
