Azara microphylla, also known as Boxleaf Azara is an arching, evergreen shrub. It has fan-like branches and small dark, glossy leaves, the smallest of the Azara family. This variegated form has creamy white margins on these small leaves. The overall effect of the boxleaf azara is airy, and it makes a good scrim. In late winter, or very early in the spring, it bears abundance of tiny pale yellow flowers having a powerful vanilla scent. By the end of March, flowers are followed by red berries.
