This palmetto is native to a relatively small area in the border region of the states Nayarit and Jalisco in Mexico. Its habitat is the dry tropical highlands, where it penetrates up to a height of 1650 metres on the rocky hillsides. Despite its physical toughness and good tolerability, it is fairly rare in nature. It is very beautiful as an ornamental plant and rewarding, moreover, a few degrees below zero does not hurt it!
