It is an American hybrid with good winter-hardiness, created by crossing the varieties Major and Shoshoni, which soon bears fruit and does it regularly, also has good disease resistance! The large walnuts contain 54% of kernel of high quality! It ripens in the last days of September! It is important to note that the measure of pecans reduce significantly in size at dry habitat or in very dry weather.
The pecan nut species are native to North America, whose fruit is three times more expensive than our domestic walnuts. (It should be noted that pecan is more beautiful and tastier too!)
The pecan`s growing area spreads up to Canada, where some of the plantations in many cases are located under less favourable conditions than ours! The northern varieties ripen early, so they produce beautiful nuts there too!
Now we offer grafts from these northern varieties, which may produce nuts from the 3rd-4th year after the installation if proper care is provided anyway (the three necessities stick to: weed-free, nutrition, water...).
We hope you will enjoy growing this real curiosity standing in front of a bright future! (By the way, there is already a young plantation in Somogy county! Our collection of sorts is three years old now, the trees are healthy, grow beautifully and can be visited after pre-scheduling! We have 10 pieces, about 15-year-old huge pecan trees as well, but these are also the seedlings of the late-ripening varieties and their nuts rarely ripen. Global warming may soon solve this problem...)
