The common lilac, also referred to as French lilac, native to Europe and Asia and has already been naturalized worldwide. 3-5 m tall, deciduous shrub or tree bearing extremely fragrant, slightly bluish-purple or pale purple flowers in May and June. It feels best at sunny location, in humus-rich soil with average water supply, tolerates urban environments and drought very well. Looks good as solitaire and perfect as a hedge too.
