This palmetto is native to the southern rocky limestone slopes of the Sierra Madre Mountains in Mexico where the sun scorches heavily. It is rare even in its natural habitat because the seeds are consumed with predilection by the animals. It has probably the bluest and most lighting leaf colour of all palms! Because of its rarity and beauty, it is the most sought after species of Brahea genus, in addition, it is hardier and more drought tolerant than the better known relative Brahea armata! It grows extremely well in poor but appropriately-drained soil! It is an element with the most dramatic effect in the subtropical plant collections!
