SOUR CHERRY `MARELLA`: this variety is ripe in mid-June, with a dark-claret fruit turning to almost a blackish claret when full ripe. Lovely, big cherries with a harmonious sweet-sourish taste. Some say that it originates from Csallóköz, where it is very popular. Most probably a cross-breed of sweet cherry and sour cherry. Its distinctively sour-cherry flavour is mixed with a pleasant sweetness that should be thanked to its cherry ancestor. Tree: vigorous growth in the beginning, slowed down by its rich crops. It is inclined to produce a too rich harvest, in which case its growth stops almost fully. In such cases do not feel sorry, cut it back a little bit harder, which makes it grow nicely again. It is a distinctly valuable, highly marketable variety!
