It is a fully winter-hardy, 19.7-foot tall tree or rather a large shrub, fruit-bearing specialty! This plant is a close relative of the Texas orange-strawberry (also grafted on it), but this one comes from China. The fruit is similar to raspberries, red, pleasantly sweet-acidic, its flavour slightly reminiscent of honeydew melons. The plants we planted in our garden began to bear fruit already in 2014! It ripens late, in October, a bit shifted in time, so can be gathered and enjoyed through a bit longer period of time! (Our only 11.7-inch tall plants could survive a very hard Siberian cold winter in February, 2012, without cover!) You can grow it as high hedge by occasional cut back!
The female specimens planted in our collection began to bear fruits when the flowers on the male plants also appeared nearby! Based on this experience, we always recommend planting male plant(s) too! Naturally, one male plant is able to pollinate more (even up to a dozen) female plants!
