It is an endangered species in its original habitat, in the middle drier part of Madagascar, where the estimated stock is only about 200 specimens!!! (I just note that Madagascar is one of the most awful examples of how human destroy the natural environment: there has only been a fraction of the original flora and fauna on the island today.) The Manambe Palm is lucky with its beauty, thanks to which is widely planted in warmer climates! In addition, it is the most frost-hardy species of the genus Dypsis, which can tolerate minus 5 degrees of frost without any damage for a short period of time!
