This is a hybrid by Cupressus macrocarpa and Chamaecyparis nootkatensis. It grows very fast, is able to grow even 1 metre a year. Although it is good drought-tolerant, still grateful for irrigation. Not picky about soils, tolerates shearing very well, excellent for hedgerow too. Without shearing, the plant raises a sturdy, beautiful deep green coloured, regular cone-shaped crown. The Leyland Cypress, like other fir species, is more resistant to frosts at old age. When a Leyland Cypress has reached the age of 4-5 years, has every chance to survive even centuries-old cold records without any significant damage. Perhaps we can say that this plant has been created to our climate. Even under extreme conditions (harder winter than an average one, dry hot summer, poor soil) it is one of the most vigorously growing plants. Also excellent for a hedge! USDA Zone 6a
