It is a 10-metre tall, exotic-looking tree with shiny dark green foliage and edible cherry sized fruits. It also serves as the rootstock of its relative diospyros kaki. It is a dioecious plant, so we have to grow male and female individuals together to have secure fruit production. Because the plants are grown from seeds, their sexes are unknown, so planting more of them is advisable to be sure there will be both sexes. Later keeping only the two necessary specimens, the crop is guaranteed and the unnecessary plants can be dug out and be planted somewhere else, or trained handed can try to graft Diospyros kaki or D. virginiana varieties on them!
