It is native to China and Japan, a semi-shrub which behaves as a perennial, sprouting from the ground in spring is able to grow up to be 6.5 feet tall. It is winter-hardy in our country (Hungary) as well, but can be easily propagated by seeds, gathering them in from year to year. Its particular value is the mass of unique spectacular purple-coloured butterfly flowers which adorn the garden in August and September when the quantity of other flowers is already less.
