 This plant is a 26-39-foot (8-12 m) tall deciduous tree (sometimes even 65-82 ft/20-25 m!) endemic to the Caucasus where it appears nearly everywhere and grows up even to the altitude of 5,249 ft (1600 m). It mainly raises broadly pyramidal crown and has numerous prickles when young. Its leaves are 1.17-2-inches (3-5 cm) long and 1-1.75-inches (2.5-4.5 cm) wide, orbicular-ovate and bright green coloured. Its flowers are white or pinkish, 1-1.4 inches (2.5-3.5 cm) in diameter, assembled in inflorescences of 5-8 flowers and appear in April or May. The fruits are 0.6-1.2 inches (1.5-3 cm) in diameter, mostly round-shaped, yellowish or yellowish-green and ripen from late July onwards; the flesh is white or greenish-white, tastes sour-sweet.
