Julian`s Barberry (Berberis julianae) is an evergreen, upright, dense, heavily spined shrub, which grows to 1,8 to 2,5 m tall and 1 to 2 m wide. The leathery, shining dark green leaves turn bronze for the winter. The leaves go green in summer and then light up any planting area with a display of flame reds and oranges in autumn. The Julian`s Barberry has showy, small yellow flowers in April and May and bluish-black berries in Fall.
Berberis julianae makes an excellent screen or privacy hedge. Grows very well in a sunny spot and also in semi shaded areas that never get direct sun. Prefers moist, well-drained soils tolerant of pruning, but looks best with natural growth. Periodic rejuvenation pruning can be employed. Native to Central China.
