The Golden Ring barberry or Blood Barberry is a 1-1.5 meters tall deciduous, ornamental shrub, with thin apart-leaning branch system. The leaves are glossy dark-purple with a narrow light-yellow margin, which turn into brilliant red in autumn, so this is a very showy plant. Its branches grow spikes. The small reddish-yellow flowers appear in April or May and they bring a lovely contrast to the foliage. Its fruits are elongated small red berries which are conspicuous for several months.
The purple colour of the leaves only comes out in the sun, so plant it in a sunny place. It is not too demanding, tolerates drought very well and is not picky with the ground either.
It can be used very well for shrub of solitaire or clipped hedge.
