The basic species, which is a close relative to the garden hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla), is native to Korea and Japan. The variety Cotton Candy is a brand new American breeding, which is an excellent frost resistant, not picky in soils, however the colour of the flowers depends on the pH: the colour tends to be more pink in a neutral or a bit alkaline type of soil (e.g. more limy soil), while more bluish in an acidic type of soil. It is incessantly delivering its inflorescences of unique structure and colour from June till October! It grows no taller than 90 cm (35-36 inch), so is perfect to keep it in a container.
