It is a very old French origin sort, which has been known since the late 1700s and reached Hungary via Germany. It can be picked late in autumn and reaches its full ripeness during storage period. According to those who know this sort, it is worth tasting first after New Year, however, in a right place, it can be stored up to June! The properly ripe fruit is very juicy, slightly sweet, more winy, of refreshingly pleasant taste. It is suitable for fresh consumption as well as processing, e.g. the crops brought up from the basement can be used to make excellent apple juice even in the middle of winter!
