A thorny, perennial, deciduous shrub or tree growing to 4.5-7 m in height. It is native to north temperate regions and commonly used for hedgerows. Its winter-hardiness is extremely good. It turns into a gorgeous white flower cloud in late May or early June, while the dark red fruits with a diameter of 2 cm ripen in late August and in September, providing a very pretty sight. The fruit is eaten raw or cooked, as tea or as jam, moreover, dried can be consumed. Its soft, juicy flesh makes it an excellent dessert fruit. This sort can practically grow on every pH type of soil, either dry, moist or wet soil, and tolerates drought, moreover, it can tolerate atmospheric pollution as well. A position in full sun is best when plants are being grown for their fruit.
