This is a species of hawthorn, which is native to the eastern half of the US and can be found in large areas from North Dakota to East Texas. It is one of the earliest blossoming hawthorn and its fruits also ripen earlier in relation to the rest of hawthorns. The tea made from the fruit berries is an excellent heart tonic and has high-blood pressure lowering effect.
