Spadona Italian Pear

(Pyrus communis `Spadona`)
This plant is currently unavailable.

It is an old, resistant sort from Italy, there mainly spread in the wider vicinity of Rome and Naples. The fruit is very flashy, slightly elongated pear-shaped, slightly reddish on the sunny side. It can be picked at the end of August or the beginning of September and can be stored till October in a right place. The ripe fruit is very nice-looking, the flesh is yellowish-white, juicy, melting, slightly acidic, sweet and has excellent flavour! Well-adaptable, non-sensitive to diseases, this sort can be grown successfully at colder areas too! (In Italy, it means e.g. those mountainous areas at high altitude where the environment is much cooler!)
