Purpureum Laurustinus, Laurestine

(Viburnum tinus `Purpureum`)
This plant is currently unavailable.

It is a densely bushy, evergreen shrub, originates from the region of the Mediterranean Sea, grows to a man`s height, furthermore is a very popular ornamental plant in the Mediterranean areas for hundreds of years. In protected areas, we can also plant it out (in Hungary) and in harsh areas, if it is covered, it will overwinter very well and is also excellent to keep it in a container! Its particular value is that in mild winters or under winter-garden conditions its palm-size inflorescences already open continuously from December! The leaves of purpureum are very beautiful reddish-claret hue when sprout and the pinkish-white flowers bloom from crimson buds! In full flowering the foliage can hardly be seen! Following some of the flowers, flashy metal-shiny blue-black berries will develop.  USDA Zone 7b.
