Dawn Redwood

(Metasequoia glyptostroboides)
This plant is currently unavailable.

Fast- and tall-growing (130-150 feet/40-45 metres) deciduous species, with slender conical crown, needs fresh, nutrient-rich soil. The light green, loose, airy foliage is very impressive! A bit looks like the American Bald Cypress (Taxodium), but that has scattered leaves arrangement, while the short shoots and leaf buds of the Chinese Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia) are opposite arrangement. Its deciduous leaves become orange-red in autumn.

The homeland of this plant is South China, where it was discovered in 1941!!! Previously it was only known in fossils and was thought to be an extinct species.
