Central Asian Hawthorn

(Crataegus pontica)
This plant is currently unavailable.

It is a 3-6-m tall shrub or small tree, which can be found in larger proportion in the Caucasus and Central Asia as its natural habitat, where grows alone or forms thicket on dry, rocky slopes. The Pontic Hawthorn develops a strong root system, so it can be used to fix the soil on steep slopes. It grows slowly, but lives as long as 150-200 years! The 5-7-lobed, rather large, leathery leaves are light grey-green and dense, forming a very decorative, spreading crown. Its white, bee-attracting flowers can be seen from late May to mid-June, while yellow, tiny-dotted, more rounded, fleshy fruits ripen in September. It is a drought-tolerant, undemanding plant!
