White Fringetree

(Chionanthus virginicus)
This plant is currently unavailable.

The American White Fringetree is native to Missouri, a deciduous shrub or small tree, typically grows 12-20 feet tall, but can be 35 feet tall in nature. The slightly fragrant creamy white flowers can be seen in 4-6-inch long airy, drooping, feathery inflorescences subdivided into four slender lobes from May to June. The plant is very spectacular in full bloom because the flowers appear even before the canopy turns green and dark blue-black berries follow them in autumn. It prefers full sun, but also feels good in partial shade. It tolerates air pollution, which makes it suitable for urban installation as well! It is not particularly sensitive to pests and plant diseases. USDA Zone 4b.
