Hibiscus, 25 plants!

(Hibiscus syriacus 25 db!)
12 500 Ft

It makes a medium or large, densely branched shrub or, occasionally, small tree, and is quite slow-growing. This is one of the last of all shrubs to come into leaf. The leaves, when they do come, are first rather yellow but become dark green in time. They are triangular in shape with several lobes and turn yellow in autumn.

The flowers are even more worth the wait. Depending on the cultivar grown, and the region of the country in which they are sited, they start to flower between late July and early September, the main flowering usually taking place in August and lasting for several weeks.

The flowers are usually single and trumpet-shaped. The single flowers have conspicuous, protruding tubes of stamens. They are borne singly in the axils of the long-stalked leaves. After flowering, there are large, oval fruit capsules, filled with seeds. It is good winter-hardy, USDA zone 5b.
