It is a 1-3-metre tall, deciduous ornamental shrub which has flowers with fringed petals are one by one 2-2.5 cm wide, but appear in panicles and bloom continuously in abundance from mid-summer. It is a real highlight. From July to September, it forms a huge dim-purple bouquet in the garden. It reaches its most exquisite floral pomp at a windless, sunny location of humid air. If it freezes back during an extremely cold winter, it will sprout again in the spring.
